By the 24-36 hour mark your whole body is itching. It starts with a few bumps on your arm, then leg, then other arm. It spreads. Seriously itching now with red bumps everywhere. Those bumps turn into blisters and so on. Those blisters start weeping nasty puss. And now you are terribly miserable around hour 48-60.
Hear is some tips to ease the torture.
1. Don't take it out on your friends/ family. Its not their fault you went frolicking through the wilderness.
2. Make sure you have cleaned the plant oil - urushoil - from under you fingernails etc... (As I explained in the Pre- 24 hour page)
3. Take HOT Showers. Don't go scalding yourself but this will numb your skin and give you some relief for a few hours.
4. Wash with dish soap. This will help remove the puss/ oil on your skin.
5. Avoid moisturizer. The idea is that you want to dry out your skin. Anything that moisturizes you skin will make it worse.
6. Let it breathe. Don't cover it up if you can help it. I know this can be hard sometimes when it is leaking, but your recovery time will be shorter.
7. Use a hot hair dryer to help dry out the blisters. Don't burn yourself!
8. If you must cover the blisters, I recommend cutting off the toes of a tube sock and using that to cover the arms. This really helps cut down on the cost of bandages.
9. Visit the doctor/ emergency room if you experience severe allergic reactions such as high fever, rash in the genitals, difficulty breathing, etc...
Good luck!
